However, these models are not the human subjects they are meant to recapitulate, a difference that has restrained discovery and delayed effective cures. Such discrepancies have guided the development of organoids, three-dimensional cultures of stem-cell-derived tissues that enhance the toolkit scientists use to make breakthroughs.
